Not possible to play or upload Opencast Videos
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 7 to 8 a.m., the RWTH streaming server Opencast will be updated to version 18.
Following maintenance, all existing videos will be reindexed.
Videos cannot be played during reindexing. The Opencast block for uploading new videos is also unavailable.
Reindexing is expected to last until October 10, 2025, at 12 noon. Please refer to the latest information in the maintenance portal.
Opencast Streaming Server is down
Opencast videos cannot be played at the moment. The import of videos from other learning rooms and the processing of uploaded videos are also not possible.

Aufzeichnungen im HS Physik zurzeit nicht möglich
Im Hörsaal Physik ist durch eine defekte Komponente zurzeit keine Aufzeichnung via Extron möglich.
Ein Austausch ist bereits geplant und soll im Verlauf der Woche stattfinden.
Bitte beachten Sie das in Ihrer Planung und weichen Sie auf die Aufzeichnung mit dem Videokonferenz-PC aus.
Das Extron-Gerät wurde ausgetauscht, Aufzeichnungen sind wieder möglich.

H03 Störung Wacom Tablet
There are currently technical problems with the Wacom tablet in lecture hall H03 (C.A.R.L.) Due to a loose contact, it may display a black screen and therefore cannot be operated. As a result, the use of the lecture hall PC is also restricted or not possible. We are already working on replacing the device as soon as possible.
Das Wacom-Tablet wurde ausgetauscht und ist wieder einsatzbereit. Auch der Hörsaal-PC kann wieder wie gewohnt genutzt werden.
H01 C.A.R.L. | Einzelprojektion derzeit nicht möglich
It is currently not possible to project a single projection in lecture hall H01 (C.A.R.L.). We are workung to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
Hörsaal Physik | Hörsaal-PC ist aufgrund eines technischen Problems aktuell nicht nutzbar
The lecture hall computer (Hörsaal-PC) in the Physics lecture hall (Hörsaal Physik) cannot be used at the moment. There is a malfunction on the screen that causes the image to flicker and prevents unrestricted use. Until the problem has been resolved, please use your own device. The video conference computer is available as usual.

Hosts of RWTH Aachen University partly not accessible from networks of other providers
Due to DNS disruption, the name servers of various providers are currently not returning an IP address for hosts under *.rwth-aachen.de.
As a workaround, you can store alternative DNS servers in your connection settings, e.g. the Level3-Nameserver (4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1) or Comodo (8.26.56.26 und 8.20.247.20). It may also be possible to reach the RWTH VPN server, in which case please use VPN.

The hosts of RWTH Aachen University can now be reached again from outside the RWTH network.
Individual users may have experienced problems even after the fault was rectified on 25 August at 9 pm. On 26.8. at 9 a.m. all follow-up work was completed, so there should be no further problems.
Problems with Opencast video playback
There are currently problems with the playback of Opencast videos in RWTHmoodle. It has been reported several times that the videos freeze while the sound continues to play.
If you are experiencing this problem, please contact the IT-ServiceDesk (servicedesk@itc.rwth-aachen.de) with the following information:
- Link to the affected video
- Browser, operating system and device type used (e.g. tablet, computer, smartphone)
- Have you tried different devices and browsers?
- Does the problem also occur in the RWTH VPN?

Due to a critical security update, it will not be possible to upload videos to the Opencast streaming server from July 8, 2024 to July 12, 2024.
Playing and – if set – downloading existing videos will remain possible during this time.
The automatic recording of lectures in the lecture halls of the C.A.R.L. and in the physics lecture hall will still be possible. However, the recording cannot be made available immediately in RWTHmoodle using the Opencast streaming server.

Hörsaal 4.0 - Teilstörung des Aufzeichnungskalenders - Partial malfunction of the recording calendar
Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to schedule a recording via the recording calendar.
The error affects all users of the lecture hall recordings.
The error will be fixed during the next maintenance on Thursday.
Technische Probleme - Hörsaal Physik
Aktuell liegen im neu ausgestatteten Hörsaal Physik noch einige technische Probleme vor, die sich auf folgende Aspekte beziehen:
- Die neu angebrachten Scheinwerfer, die Sie während einer Aufzeichnung ideal ausleuchten sollen, sind leider aktuell außer Betrieb.

The playback of streaming videos in RWTHmoodle is currently disrupted. Unfortunately, the problem cannot be solved at the moment and the error can therefore only be corrected this morning.
The problem has been fixed. The videos can now be played again.
RWTHmoodle - Upgrade Streamingserver Opencast
On January 18, 2024 the streaming server Opencast will be upgraded to the latest version.
To ensure a smooth process , the Opencast block will already be hidden on January 17, 2024, at 5 pm. Uploading and deleting videos will no longer be possible from this date. Furthermore, videos can no longer be played from January 18, 2024. Users see an Opencast login screen instead of the video. It is not possible to log in at this point.
Auditorium 4.0 is also affected, that means no live streaming can take place. Furthermore, no new recordings can be scheduled or already scheduled recordings deleted.
The system will then be fully available again from 12 am on Friday.
The maintenance is complete.
