However, the systems are now running normally again.
Not possible to play or upload Opencast Videos
On Thursday, October 9, 2025, from 7 to 8 a.m., the RWTH streaming server Opencast will be updated to version 18.
Following maintenance, all existing videos will be reindexed.
Videos cannot be played during reindexing. The Opencast block for uploading new videos is also unavailable.
Reindexing is expected to last until October 10, 2025, at 12 noon. Please refer to the latest information in the maintenance portal.
Maintenance MySQL Database Server (MFA)
During the specified period maintenance work will be carried out on the IT Center's MFA MySQL databases. Data Protection Incident on 11.8.2025
Due to an unintentional configuration error, a data protection incident occurred on Monday, 11 August 2025, between 11:36 and 11:58 a.m. (or, in the context of RWTHmoodle, until approximately 12:40 p.m.):
Logged-in users may have been able to view the data of other logged-in users.
The following services are affected (analysis is ongoing):
- RWTHmoodle
- Git-Ce
- RWTHgpt
- Sciebo (only data in MySciebo)
- GigaMove

Unnecessary duplicates in question banks
As a result of a bug in Moodle, unwanted duplicates can occur for some question types when importing, restoring or duplicating quizzes. We are working on removing these unneeded duplicates and fixing the underlying bug.

Error when importing courses with large question banks
Errors may currently occur when using the course import in RWTHmoodle. Particularly affected are course rooms with extensive question banks for the "Quiz" activity. We are working on providing a fix as soon as possible. However, this will take a few days.
Course imports in RWTHmoodle may currently be accompanied by warning messages. The content will still be imported. We are working on eliminating the warning messages. If the course imports fail in individual cases and no content is imported, please contact the RWTHmoodle support (servicedesk@itc.rwth-aachen.de).
Routing über neue XWiN-Router
During this period, the routing of the previous XWiN routers (Nexus 7700) will be switched to the new XWiN routers (Catalyst 9600). These routers are essential for RWTH's network connection. This changeover also requires the migration of the DFN connection, which is switched redundantly to Frankfurt and Hannover, and the RWTH firewall to the new systems.
There will be complete or partial outages of the external connection during the maintenance window. All RWTH services (e.g. VPN, email, RWTHonline, RWTHmoodle) will not be available during this period. The accessibility of services within the RWTH network will be temporarily unavailable due to limited DNS functionality.

Hosts of RWTH Aachen University partly not accessible from networks of other providers
Due to DNS disruption, the name servers of various providers are currently not returning an IP address for hosts under *.rwth-aachen.de.
As a workaround, you can store alternative DNS servers in your connection settings, e.g. the Level3-Nameserver (4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1) or Comodo (8.26.56.26 und 8.20.247.20). It may also be possible to reach the RWTH VPN server, in which case please use VPN.

The error message is “Incompatible stream type”.

Aufgrund von Erneuerung der SSL Zertifikate wird der vCenter Server im genannten Zeitraum teilweise kurzzeitig nicht erreichbar sein.
Alle VMs laufen wie gewohnt weiter und die Erreichbarkeit der darauf laufenden Dienste wird NICHT durch diese Wartung beeinträchtigt werden. Lediglich die Funktionen des HTML5 Clients für das Management ihrer VMs werden nicht verfügbar sein, da Sie sich während der Wartung nicht am vCenter Server einloggen können.

Login via RWTH Single Sign-On Partially Not Possible
Unfortunately, the login via the RWTH Single Sign-On and thus into the connected services is currently only successful in individual cases.
If you receive an error message, please try to log in again in about an hour.
People who are already successfully logged in are not affected by the disruption.
The servers are currently at full capacity. We therefore ask you to try to log in at a later time (approx. in one hour). We are working on a solution to the problem.
Through various measures, which have significantly increased the overall performance of the servers, the loading difficulties and login problems were resolved around 3 pm.
For the time being, the message remains as a note, as we continue to monitor the load on the system.
The login to the RWTH Single Sign-On is stabilized. For this reason, we are ending this notice.
Hörsaal 4.0 - Teilstörung des Aufzeichnungskalenders - Partial malfunction of the recording calendar
Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to schedule a recording via the recording calendar.
The error affects all users of the lecture hall recordings.

Virtual Programming Lab deactivated
For security reasons, the Moodle plugin “Virtual Programming Lab” has been partially deactivated. Solutions can still be submitted. However, these will no longer be compiled and executed.

Between 20:00 and 21:15, some VMs in the Virtual Serverhosting service were without IP connectivity. This affected the SSO login and access to Moodle.

RWTHmoodle - Upgrade Streamingserver Opencast
On January 18, 2024 the streaming server Opencast will be upgraded to the latest version.
To ensure a smooth process , the Opencast block will already be hidden on January 17, 2024, at 5 pm. Uploading and deleting videos will no longer be possible from this date. Furthermore, videos can no longer be played from January 18, 2024. Users see an Opencast login screen instead of the video. It is not possible to log in at this point.
Auditorium 4.0 is also affected, that means no live streaming can take place. Furthermore, no new recordings can be scheduled or already scheduled recordings deleted.
The system will then be fully available again from 12 am on Friday.
The maintenance is complete.

Temporarily there was a communication problem with the streaming server Opencast, so that the course pages were slow to load and the list of available videos was not loaded. In some cases, the message "List cannot be loaded (Error: Unexpected API response.)" was displayed.
