There is currently a problem with RWTH-guests. It is usually possible to log in, but no connection to the Internet can be established. We are currently analyzing the problem.

On September 9, 2025, we will switch the RADIUS server certificate in the eduroam and RWTH-institutes networks to the DFN Community Root CA 2022 certificate.
In order for a device to connect successfully to the Wi-Fi, it must recognize the stored root certificate as trustworthy.
To avoid connection interruptions, we recommend to use the current eduroam CAT App or to install the root certificate manually.
Devices that have installed or updated the eduroam CAT App for Wi-Fi configuration after June 12, 2025 and devices with the EAP-PWD authentication method (mainly available on Android and Linux systems) are not affected by the certificate change.

During this period, the routing of the previous XWiN routers (Nexus 7700) will be switched to the new XWiN routers (Catalyst 9600). These routers are essential for RWTH's network connection. This changeover also requires the migration of the DFN connection, which is switched redundantly to Frankfurt and Hannover, and the RWTH firewall to the new systems.

Nachdem das DFN-seitige Problem nachts wenig ausgeprägt auftrat, waren seit ca. 10:14 Uhr hochschulweit vorübergehende Qualitätseinschränkungen in der Außenanbindung bemerkbar (abbrechende Verbindungen usw.). Nach Diagnose zusammen mit dem DFN-Verein wurde das Routing gegen 10:55 Uhr manuell angepasst, so dass nun kein Datenverkehr mehr über die – immer noch selbsttätig zu- und abschaltende – Faserverbindung nach Frankfurt a.M. fließt. Die Anbindung läuft nun stabil über Hannover, so dass der Faserdefekt für uns keine bemerkbaren Auswirkungen mehr hat. (Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt, nach Wiederherstellung einer stabilen Verbindung nach Frankfurt durch den DFN-Verein bzw. seine Auftragnehmer, werden wir das Routing über beide Faserwege wieder in Betrieb nehmen.)

Derzeit kommt es zu schlechtem IPv4-Durchsatz im Bereich Instituts-WLANs.
Eine Umkonfiguration, während der auch Eduroam vorübergehend nicht verfügbar war, konnte das Problem nicht lösen. Wir werden zu später Stunde, wenn weniger Nutzer online sind, weiter an der Behebung arbeiten.

A hardware component of a central data link will need to be changed, out of schedule. This is urgently necessary in order to resolve a throughput problem of the RWTH-institutes wireless service. This maintenance measure will result in downtime (estimate: 10+ minutes) of the wireless (eduroam, RWTH-institutes, ...).

Radius is unable to get any EGM credentials from LDAP, consequently login to eduroam and other SSIDs that require EGM is not possible. We are working on a solution.

Die Logins der VPN Dienste der RWTH unterliegen zur Zeit einer Distributed Denial of Service Attacke. Unsere Security Kollegen grenzen zur Zeit die Angriffe ein und erweitern Ihre Filter in der RWTH Firewall.

WLAN-Gastzugänge die ab dem 19.03.2024 erzeugt wurden funktionieren z.Z. nicht. Wir arbeiten an einer Lösung.

IP addresses in eduroam are currently assigned via the IT Center's ISC DHCP servers. As the software is end-of-life (EOL) and no longer receives updates, new DHCP servers have been set up with KEA-DHCP, which already handle IP allocation for other networks. On Monday, February 26 from 9 am, the IP assignment for eduroam will be switched to the new DHCP servers in cooperation with the UKA network colleagues. During this period, eduroam will not be available.

Access to multiple Wireless LANs and to multiple VPNs is currently undergoing difficulties, due to a defective backend system (RADIUS). The relevant technical department has already been informed and is working on a solution.

durch eine Änderung in der Authentifizierungsschnittstelle wurde leider der Anmeldemechanismus für alte Instituts-WLANs gestört. Eine Anmeldung an WLANs mit der SSID "RWTH-{Institutskürzel}" ist daher derzeit nur in bestimmten Fällen möglich. Wir arbeiten an der Behebung.

Störung behoben

wegen eines Programmierfehlers während Wartungsarbeiten ist es zu einem Ausfall des Authentifizierungsdienstes gekommen. Dadurch waren kurzzeitig keine neuen Logins in VPN und WLAN möglich.

nach einem Upgrade der zentralen Router Firmware verweigert der Router seit heute Nacht seine Arbeit. Dadurch ist das WLAN der RWTH komplett ausgefallen. Wir arbeiten an der Behebung.

Da der Weiterbetrieb des c9400-rog-2 nicht gewährleitstet werden kann, muss der c9400-rog-2 komplett ausgetauscht werden.

In the course of a software update, the individual proxies are restarted. Due to the HA implementation, there should be no failures. Affected are among others mail, WLAN VPN/Shibboleth (because of LDAP).

Wegen eines Speicherüberlaufs im zentralen Router des WLANs wird es absehbar zwischen 15:30 und 15:45 zum Ausfall des gesamten WLANs der RWTH kommen. Es wird rund 15-20 Minuten dauern, bis die Infrastruktur wieder zur Verfügung steht.
Der aktuelle Fehler wird derzeit mit dem Hersteller analysiert und ein automatisierter Workaround, um den Zustand zu vermeiden hat heute Nacht wegen eines Fehlers leider nicht gegriffen. Daher tritt diese Situation nun tagsüber auf.
